Biology beyond borders

Biology alumnae Emily Zimmerman could have graduated early. But she found that four years wasn't enough time for her adventure. So she picked up a second major in Global Resource Systems that enabled her to conduct research over the summer in Rome including a presentation at a sustainable international development conference in China.

The College of Agriculture and Life Sciences believes that this is one of the incredible benefits of study abroad programs. Students like Emily can think about science well beyond the labs in Ames, Iowa. They can combine their interests in unique ways and may even find themselves working to improve the livelihoods of others across the globe.

Emily is still continuing her adventure. She is pursuing an advanced degree and continuing to study the intersection of conservation and the production of food, fuel and fiber. After all, when the world is your lab, adventure takes time.
