Communicating the science of cooking

Lauren Grant

Lauren Grant loves a challenge. As a double major in culinary food science and journalism, she juggled demanding coursework with involvement in the Culinary Science Club and Greek life, working, and being editor-in-chief of Ames Eats Flavors. All of which feed her passion for food.

In the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences (CALS) and beyond, she became the go-to girl when it comes to creativity in the kitchen and writing about the amazing world of food. Case in point, she jumped at the opportunity to create unique and tasty recipes using as main ingredients three food products developed in CALS; Crimson Sweet or All Sweet watermelon, Maytag Blue Cheese, and Chieftain apples.

These skills have helped her obtain several internships, leading her down a career path that combines her love of cooking and creativity in exciting new ways. Lauren has created recipes for the Soyfoods Council, worked in the test kitchen of America’s Test Kitchen, and with Meredith on Diabetic Living magazine. Challenge accepted.
