New life. New connections.

Ambar Morales

Ambar Morales (nutritional science) knew that Ames would be a change from her home in Puerto Rico. But she also knew that she would thrive with the help of her community. That’s why she joined the Academic Program for Excellence (APEX), a summer program for new multicultural freshmen.

In APEX, Ambar was able to experience some Iowa State courses. More importantly, she connected with her community starting with Elizabeth Martinez-Podolsky. Through Elizabeth, Ambar received a personal introduction to the students and places that make up the culture of Iowa State. She found that knowing the roots of the college helped her plant her own.
