Learning Communities

Learning Communities

At Iowa State University, students may join a learning community. These small groups of students generally take one, two, or three courses together and may live in the same residence hall.

There is a wide variety of learning communities to choose from; some are focused on a specific major while others include students from many different majors. There are learning communities for new first-year students, transfer students, and even upper-class students. Certain learning communities have spaces reserved in residence halls for students to live near one another.

But they all put together students with similar academic goals, offer opportunities for career exploration and introductions to university resources, facilitate networking and study groups among students, make use of knowledge of student peer mentors, and utilize faculty mentoring.
