Food and Human Health

Do you want to be an expert in nutrition? Learn how proper eating promotes good health? Create new products that fly off the store shelves? Or maybe you’re interested in supervising the preparation and service of food, participating in nutrition research, or educating people on good dietary habits? If so, then you’ve come to the right place.

Imagine yourself touring the floor of a major company where foods soon to hit the store shelves are produced. See yourself sitting across the table from someone who has volunteered to share their dietary habits and allows you to analyze practices and give advice to adopt a healthier lifestyle. Use all the skills you learned in processing, sensory analysis, and food chemistry to create your own new product and present it to a group of industry experts. These are just some of the adventures that await you in and out of the classroom at Iowa State.

Most common majors would include culinary food science, dietetics, diet and excercise, food science and nutritional science. But there may be a number of additional majors that have an impact on food and human health in unique ways. Be sure to check out the full list of College of Agriculture and Life Sciences majors.
